Over the years, our boys have had a few Velveteen Rabbits. You know the ones...those special stuff animals that get picked over and over to accompany William or Davis to bed or on an trip. In our family we call them sleepy friends and just like the Velveteen Rabbit, the more they are loved the shabbier they look. I remind myself as I wash (ever so carefully)one of the precious animals that everything does not have to look new and pretty. In fact, the being loved is more important than outwardly appearance. I look forward to seeing which stuffed animals become Mary Stewart's sleepy friends and will graciously watch as that special toy's fur becomes matted and worn, it's stuffing leaks out and perhaps even looses eye or shoe!
This first video was taken last summer so it is an oldie but goodie. Aunt Rachel and Emily picked out this book for Davis and shipped it to Sweden along with a stuff Puff which has become a "sleepy friend". In case you are wondering if we have a child prodigy reading when he was 3...the book Davis is holding does not contain the story you hear him reading! Also, if you listen carefully, you can hear Mary Stewart sucking down her bottle while mommy multi-tasks - feeding baby while capturing video for memories. Ahhh memories!
What I love about the boys sleepy friends is the story of where they came from.
